New events added - Sorry to Bother You screening and Festival of Debate workshop.
We’re really pleased to announce our next two events:
Sorry To Bother You screening and fundraiser for striking refuse workers
Thursday 24 April 2025, 19:30 - 22:00, Broomhall Centre
Join Sheffield Transformed for a screening of the acclaimed film Sorry To Bother You, directed by Boots Riley.
The film follows a young African-American telemarketer who adopts a "white voice" to succeed at his job, after which he is swept into a corporate conspiracy and must choose between chasing profit or joining his activist friends who are attempting to unionise.
All profits from ticket sales will be donated to the strike fund for Unite union refuse workers who have been on indefinite strike action at Veolia in Sheffield for the last 7 months. They have one simple demand - that their employer recognises their union.
You can also support the workers on strike by signing their petition and submitting this motion to your own trade union branch.
Festival Of Debate workshop - Building Worker Power: Troubleshooting Union Organisation
Saturday 10 May 2025, 15:00- 17:00, Soft Ground
We are very excited to be taking part in this year’s Festival of Debate with the Building Worker Power workshop.
The workshop will explore how trade unionism can boost workers’ power, showcasing organising successes and looking at the challenges workers face. Whether you’re new to trade unionism or an experienced activist, this session will provide practical guidance on protecting your rights and organising in your workplace. You’ll leave with a greater understanding of how, as workers, we can use our collective strength to fight for better pay, treatment and conditions.
Tickets are free, but if you can afford to do so, please do leave a donation to Festival Of Debate.
