Next event announced: Threads 40th Anniversary Screening with Red Riding Magazine and Yorkshire CND
Join us for a 40th anniversary screening of Threads.
Sheffield Transformed is working with Red Riding Magazine to co-host a viewing of this renowned Sheffield-based film.
Originally aired in September 1984, during the height of the Cold War, Threads imagines how a nuclear war could unfold. Set in Sheffield, the film shows the devastating impact, and post-apocalyptic aftermath, of a nuclear attack. And, forty years after it was first shown, the film remains a shocking and thought-provoking depiction of atomic warfare.
Written by Barry Hines and directed and produced by Mick Jackson, the film's plot centres on two families as a confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union erupts. As the nuclear exchange between NATO and the Warsaw Pact begins, the film portrays the medical, economic, social and environmental consequences of nuclear war for working-class people.
The film will be introduced by speakers from the Yorkshire Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and Red Riding Magazine who will discuss its historical significance.
Please note that the film has been given a 15 rating and contains graphic war imagery including wounds and injuries.
Doors open at 6:45pm for a 7pm start. Please arrive promptly to find your seat.

Ticket Pricing
We want as many as people as possible to attend our events and don't want ticket prices to be a barrier. At the same time, we need to raise enough money to cover costs, such as hiring the venue. We've put together a sliding scale of ticket prices so that we can raise the money we need, without pricing anyone out.
When booking a place, we would ask that you select the ticket that you can afford:
£5 Standard Ticket: This is what our budget says we need to charge to cover the event.
£7 Solidarity Ticket: If you are comfortable and have a decent income, please consider paying a little more.
£3 Low Income Ticket: For people on lower incomes who cannot afford the full ticket price.
No Charge Ticket: For people who have no disposable income at all.
